Alabama Accordion Association

Message from the President This is the first newsletter of the year, as we have made some changes to the Association's activities. We started the year in January by sponsoring the Frank Busso concert. However, Mr. Busso requested to bring along his longtime co-performer, Henry Tyszler (violin), to the concert. These two musicians had been performing together for over 20 years, and their performance showcased their skill, timing, and musical passion. This concert was arguably one of the best performances we've seen in several decades. To help the AAA, Mr. Busso significantly reduced his fee, allowing us to provide a 2026 concert. Our next meeting was held at Brookwood Baptist Church on April 26. It wasn’t well attended, so attendees suggested changing the venue for future meetings. We discussed how the Atlanta and Nashville accordion clubs meet at various restaurants, and the group agreed to do the same. After some internal discussions, it was decided to try the Fish Market restaurant in downtown Birmingham. The next meeting was held on July 26 at the Fish Market restaurant's patio. Eight people attended, and everyone agreed that this venue was a significant improvement. Our latest meeting on October 25 at the Fish Market restaurant was arguably one of the best in several years. Aside from the venue, we welcomed new members — Jinling, Dong Feng, and David Mussatto — to join us. Dong Feng has been taking lessons from Betty Bridges and performed for the first time. David Mussatto, a former Leon Sash student, has been performing for over 50 years, and his skills are exceptional. After numerous medical procedures, Danese Knott-Craig was able to perform again. Johnny Rogalski has moved back from Virginia to Alabama, and he performed for the group. We always appreciate our experienced performers, Betty Bridges and Sandy Hughes, for sharing their selections and being wonderful people. Daniel Burque made the long trip to the meeting and gave everyone a wonderfully entertaining lunch performance. The treasurer's report below indicates that we are slightly short of funds to sponsor the 2026 concert. We will need the club's 2026 dues to fill the funding gap for the concert. For 2026 dues, please send checks to Martha Miller at the address listed below.
